Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm Printable

Yesterday we wrapped up our Literature Unit on Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm. We learned lots about farms, farm animals and how to care for them.

When the animals ran away from Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm  they found themselves in the city, with hilarious results! They also picked terrible places to hide! I used this part of the story as the inspiration for our Creative Writing activity.

We decided to offer the animals some “smarter” places to hide the next time they don’t fancy a bath. We even thought about why our hiding places would be suitable.

There was lots and lots of language development and rationalizing involved. We came up with some fantastic suggestions.

Some of my favourites were:

  •  the roof as it was too high up to be seen
  • the attic as it is so dark
  • in a forest  because you could hide behind the trees
  • on another farm that has no baths- no further explanation needed there 😉

Aren’t they just precious?! Which would you pick?

Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm Printable

I am continuing to use Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm as the basis of our creative writing class. Yesterday we had lots of fun discussing and completing an application form to work with Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s herself!

The application form  a fantastic way to extend oral vocabulary, encouraged creative writing  and to get children thinking and reasoning.

Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm has fantastic integration potential in SESE:

History:

Stand: Story Unit: Stories

  • discuss the chronology of events (beginning, middle, end) in a story
  • display storyline pictures showing episodes in sequence

Science:

Stand: Living Things Unit: Plants & Animals

  • observe, discuss and identify a variety of plants and animals in different habitats in the immediate environment
  • become aware of animals and plants of other environments
  • recognise and identify the external parts of living things

Just a thought for those of you teaching ;).

I hope that you enjoy this  printable as much as we did.

Have fun,

Miss Mernagh 🙂

Mrs Wishy-Washy’s Farm Writing Printable

My class have been loving Mrs Wishy-Washy. Have any of you read it yet? If so, I would love to hear your comments 🙂

It was so sweet of Santa to leave us some books that we had never even heard of. It means that the this month’s comprehension focus on “prediction” is even easier to teach. Thanks Santa!!!

I always like to include a Reader Response Activity at the end of a story telling session. It is an easy way to encourage children to engage in some creative writing as they already have lots of mental imagery floating around  😉

Yesterday my class used this reader response activity to help Mrs. Wishy-Washy with the bothersome task of scrubbing all of those animals.

You could use it in two ways:

To elicit a priori knowledge (before reading):

  •  Predict what Mrs. Wishy-Washy would need in order to wash the animals.
  • Tick the box if your prediction appeared in the book itself.

As a reader response to the story:

  •   What did  Mrs. Wishy-Washy have laid out in the barn for washing the animals?
  •   Can you think of any other/better things that she could use?
  •    What would you use?

I hope that you find this Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm worksheet useful. I have printed it and all margins are working for me. If you have any difficulties please let me know.

Have fun,

Miss Mernagh 🙂
